NWC addresses water supply issues in Old Harbour communities

  • Apr 13, 2025 09:06 AM | News

Residents in several Old Harbour communities have endured months of inconsistent water supply, with frustration mounting over the National Water Commission’s (NWC) delayed response and lack of communication.

For months, hundreds of residents served by the NWC’s Claremont facility have faced severe water shortages, with little to no explanation from the state entity until now.

In an update posted yesterday, the NWC acknowledged the challenges, citing "significant reductions in water inflows" due to low yields from the facility. This has led to a drastic drop in supply from the Claremont Pumping Station, affecting multiple communities, including Claremont Gardens, Claremont Heights, Rhone Park Estate, Old Harbour Glades, Succaba Gardens, Burke Road, and parts of Old Harbour Bay.

To manage the crisis, the NWC has implemented a scheduled regulation system.

For Claremont and surrounding areas water will be supplied between 6:00 pm and 7:00 am, while for Old Harbour Bay and nearby communities service will be available from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.

The NWC has urged customers to store water where possible but has not provided a timeline for full restoration, as the cause of the problem remains under investigation.

Affected residents, including local officials, have expressed frustration over the prolonged disruption and the lack of timely updates from the water company. The NWC says it is working to resolve the issue and restore normal service as soon as possible.
