Robber fatally shot, policeman hospitalized

A man is dead, while a police is hospitalized in serious but stable condition following last night’s shooting incident at a motel on Port Henderson Road, Portmore.
Reports at about 9:00 pm the off-duty officer was attacked by an armed thug who attempted to rob him of his cash and other items.
During the process a shootout developed with the police officer, who is a corporal at the National Police College of Jamaica (formerly the Police Academy), killing his attacker in the process.
Both were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where the unidentified man was pronounced dead on arrival and the policeman, who was shot in the upper body, admitted in serious but stable condition.
A Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol containing 11 rounds was recovered from the scene.
Investigation continues.
